Behind the lens: Rachel!

From Al: Friends, we have a special treat today on In A Cinch! The woman behind many of my photos agreed to be featured in an outfit post of her own today (I’ve been trying to convince her to start a blog of her own… don’t you think she should?!) So with no further ado, I give you my dear friend, Rachel!

Top: H&M
Skirt: Banana Republic (Thrifted)
Belt: Urban Outfitters
Boots: Some mall a long time ago?
Socks: Target
Necklace: Was my Grandma’s

Hello style blog enthusiasts! Since Alison first introduced me a couple of years ago, I have been a regular observer of world that is fashion blogging and this post is my first time as an actual participant! Hummm what to say…

Well the weather changed pretty quickly from summer to fall in the past couple of weeks and I couldn’t be happier. To join in what seems like general agreement, I think it’s so fun dressing for fall weather and this outfit is a great example. I love the rich colors and warm fabrics, and the belt (which is new and was totally on sale) is so autumn it’s almost cliche (almost, right?!).

Pink, coral, and red

Top: J. Crew
Pants: J. Crew (!)
Flats: J. Crew (!!)
Necklace: Borrowed from Mandi

Well, it was a J. Crew kind of day, and apparently I collect J. Crew in red hues! Obviously when I put this outfit together I knew I was pairing red and coral and pink, but it didn’t occur to me I’d be brand-naming it for a day… whoops. It doesn’t quite come with the same joy of an all-thrifted or all-self-made outfit, but on the other hand, can a girl really complain when she’s all decked out in J. Crew? I think not.

Adding this necklace was a last-minute kind of over-the-top addition to this outfit, but in retrospect, I think it’s what pulled it together. It encourages the combination of clashing colors to actually look intentional, and making the top a happy medium between the pants and the necklace.

Today’s lesson learned: To some extent, this is an “end-of-30-day-challenge-throw-something-on” outfit, but I found myself not as uncomfortable with all the clashing as I’d expected. So I wouldn’t be surprised if I try to pull something off like this again, this time in real life. (Though I’m not sure my boyfriend would approve! Oh well!)

Patriotic

 Tank: J. Crew
Cardi: Gap Outlet
Jeans: Gap Outlet
Boots: Shoegasm
Necklace: Street vendor in Hong Kong

Now that I have made such a big hubbub about the glasses I just bought, I have a few days to showcase the frames that will very shortly be retired. Friends, meet old Tommy Hilfiger frames. Tommy frames, meet your demise. Your days are numbered. Still, you have served me, and my vision, quite well over the years! R.I.P., my friend(s?).

Speaking of Tommy Hilfiger, my outfit yesterday was very patriotic, no? I only wish I had thought to throw on some bright orangey-red lipstick, but I do rarely wear make-up, if only because I’m supremely lazy.

Lesson learned today: what I think will be an awesome outfit is not always awesome; what I think will be boring will sometimes be amazing! Pulling out this outfit from the closet yesterday morning I felt quite uninspired, as opposed to the pink panther or even summer scallops. But this is my favorite so far, in pictures. I’m eager to learn more about what looks good on me and my body through the camera–not only in my head.
